* Bandwagon launches major national music competition across all schools in the UK.
Students will get the chance to enter a battle of the bands competition, which if they win will see them playing at Glastonbury 2007 and getting a record deal with a leading independent label. A whole host of equipment and instruments are also up for grabs to the runner ups and for the best participating schools. The crux of Sound Clash is to identify the best musical talent in full time school/college education in the UK today. The competition is open to all students aged between 12-18 at secondary school and sixth form/college.Sound Clash is open to all bands and solo artists, across all genres of music. It is designed to encourage students and schools to support their entering bands, and to champion their cause and school. The top 4 bands will be whittled down by a combination of A&R, user-voting & judging panel. All bands that enter will gain exposure to a dedicated audience of music fans online.
The students & schools/colleges can pre-register before 13th November and will be notified via email with further instructions and details when the competition commences. Once Sound Clash has commenced on 13th November, students then sign up, create online profiles, and upload MP3s of their tracks to their artist profile page on Sound Clash’s website (when they’re ready). Non musicians can sign up, create a personal profile, and write reviews of their favourite music and upload their photographs.

* Very rarely does a monumental record find itself matched with the promise of commercial success. But the strength, intensity and explosive lure of ‘DEFINE THE GREAT LINE’, UNDEROATH’s follow up to their over 350,000 selling 2004 breakthrough ‘They’re Only Chasing Safety’, is undeniable.
Crafted with the help of Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, Underoath found themselves encouraged to use E-bows, reel bows and experiment with delays and effects pedals, making the result - ‘DEFINE THE GREAT LINE’ - a mind-blowing song-cycle that resets the notion of what hardcore, screamo or whatever you want to call it, can be.
‘Define the Great Line’ has already sold more than 250 thousand copies since its US release just 2 months ago, and the video for the single "Writing on the Walls" is currently #1 on America’s MTV2´s T-Minus Rock show. Having just finished this years Warped Tour, they are now getting ready for a Canadian headline tour followed by the International Taste of Chaos tour beginning in October.
In anticipation of their UK dates (HERE) we are offering a free album sampler download HERE.
There are banners for the download and the Taste of Chaos tour freely available from HERE.

* A virtual rock band roadie is the latest recruit in the campaign to tackle global road deaths.
The Make Roads Safe campaign and rock band Dirty Pretty Things are launching a new online viral game to raise awareness about the impact of road deaths around the world and build support for the campaign. Roadie Runner sees a Dirty Pretty Things roadie trying to retrieve musical instruments by crossing a five lane highway with often fatal results.
The game is intended to be a fun way to get across a serious message to a high risk audience "young men" that can be difficult to reach through conventional road safety messages. Players are encouraged to join the Make Roads Safe campaign, and key facts about global road deaths are displayed throughout the game.
Road crashes are the number one killer of young people in the UK, Europe and the US. Worldwide, only HIV/AIDS kills more young men than road crashes.
Make Roads Safe Campaign Coordinator Saul Billingsley said: "We recognise that this kind of treatment of road safety issues might be controversial. But the Make Roads Safe campaign is being innovative in the way political awareness about road safety is communicated, working with Dirty Pretty Things on their UK national tour this winter and using social networking online, including MySpace and YouTube, to connect with people in their teens and twenties. The Roadie Runner game will help us to put across serious road safety facts through a fun medium to a potentially massive youth audience online".
Dirty Pretty Things guitarist Anthony Rossamondo said: "We need to do more to highlight the fact that 1.2 million people are needlessly killed on the roads around the world each year. This is why Dirty Pretty Things are supporting the Make Roads Safe campaign".
We have listed the London event which also features the rest of the tour dates. Please go HERE for more information.
* This is not another survey. After being into punk for the last 25 years or so, I found myself wondering why so many people are involved in the punk movement (for the want of a better term!) and how they got into it. It struck me that there are many people, young and old, who have kept this particular music scene alive for over 30 years - more people seem to be into it than ever, including young people who are listening to bands on the fringes of what can be termed punk, right through to those who still swear by the ´original´ bands. There are those into the anarchy side of things and those more into the mainstream bands. However, it seems that whatever you listen to, people still fall under that wide umbrella known as punk.
So .... I was thinking that maybe it would be an interesting project to ask people how they got into punk in the first place, be they young, old or alien. I will collate whatever is sent to me and have the option of wither getting it on a website or printing it in a fanzine/book type thing - this will depend on the results I get.
All you need to do is send me an email that includes how you got into it, what kind of bands you were into and your first name and age. If you are in or were in a band, please feel free to include a little about that too. Then please pass this on to anyone that you know who was or is into punk and get them to send me something too.
Send your info either to me at My Space or Email me.
This is purely for the interests of everyone who listens to the music and not research for anything in particular. I will not be passing on any information for the profit of others in any way shape or form as that goes against what I personally bellieve in. I hope you feel able to make a contribution and I won´t be altering what people say - I aim to ´keep it real´ and hopefully we can get a glimpse of punk across the years and how it manages to keep bringing people into the music.
A huge thanks to everyone in advance and check my page for updates on how it is going!

Recording for the highly anticipated ´Still Searching´ began in May of 2006 with acclaimed producer Brian McTernan (Thrice, Cave-In) at Bearsville Studio in upstate NY and features a new musical cohesiveness for the band, resulting from hundreds of shows and tens of thousands of miles on the road.
"It has been almost three years since we´ve written a new record and the long wait allowed us to change in ways we never thought possible," explains Nielsen (vocalist). "This record is the account of those years. We can´t wait for everyone to hear it!

* Drummer Sandy West, from the ´70s all-female rock band The Runaways, has died of lung cancer aged 47. The influential musician was diagnosed a year ago and she died in a hospice in San Dimas, east of Los Angeles. Lead singer Cherie Curry said: "It will never be the same for me again to step up on stage because Sandy West was the best and I will miss her forever." West started The Runaways with Joan Jett in 1975. They went on to have hits with Cherry Bomb and Born to be Bad. "We shared the dream of girls playing rock and roll. Sandy was an exuberant and powerful drummer," said Jett. "I am overcome from the loss of my friend. I always told her we changed the world," she added. Before the band broke up in 1979, The Runaways toured the world several times, often headlining with opening acts like Tom Petty and Cheap Trick. West went on to perform as a drummer, guitarist and vocalist with The Sandy West Band. Her manager, Mara Fox, is hoping to publish the musician´s memoirs which she wrote before she died.

* MAKE ROADS SAFE CAMPAIGN
Teen killer on the road
Dirty Pretty Things and Metro Riots to play road safety gig.
A serial killer striking late at night has killed at least ten young people this summer.
The killer road crashes - struck most recently on the M25 after the V Festival in August, but has also taken lives in Suffolk, Yorkshire and Scotland.
This summer there has been a spate of fatal road accidents involving car occupants in their teens and early twenties, travelling on the road late at night, sometimes after attending a gig or music festival. A particular feature of these crashes has been multiple deaths of teenagers travelling together in one car, with devastating results for local communities.
Indie bands Dirty Pretty Things and Metro Riots will play a special gig in London next Wednesday (13) to draw attention to the high number of teenage road deaths in the UK and to point out that, worldwide, someone is killed in a road crash every 30 seconds.
The gig, for the Make Roads Safe campaign, was partly inspired by the deaths of three teenage girls in Suffolk in July following a concert that Dirty Pretty Things had played. Red Hot Chili Peppers, who headlined the concert, have also endorsed the campaign. Some close friends and family of the teenage crash victims will be attending the gig.
Other fatal crashes involving young drivers have included:
A crash on the M25 involving a car returning from the V Festival in August, which killed three people in their teens and early twenties;
A crash in Huddersfield on 1st September in which three teenage girls were killed and two young men in their twenties were seriously injured;
A crash in Aberdeenshire which killed a teenage driver and injured his two passengers after their car hit a tree in the early hours of August 28th
A crash in Cornwall in August which seriously injured a young driver and killed his 15 year old passenger. More than 700 people attended the girls funeral.
Road crashes are the number one killer of people in their teens and twenties in the UK, and second only to HIV/AIDS as a killer of young men worldwide. As the road accident in India this week involving the entourage of Conservative leader David Cameron has shown, road deaths are also a major problem in developing countries. More than eighty-five per cent of all road deaths occur in poorer countries at a cost of up to $100 billion a year. The Make Roads Safe campaign is calling for international action to tackle these road deaths, which are predicted to double by 2020.
Anthony Rossomando, guitarist, Dirty Pretty Things, said:
We need to do more to highlight the fact that 1.2 million people are needlessly killed on the roads around the world each year. This is why Dirty Pretty Things are supporting the Make Roads Safe campaign.
Edmund King, spokesman for the Make Roads Safe campaign, said:
The deaths of so many of our young people in such a short time should be a cause for national concern. We need to make young drivers aware of the dangers they face, particularly when driving at night, and that is why we have teamed up with Dirty Pretty Things to raise awareness about the scale of road deaths both here in the UK and across the world.
The Make Roads Safe campaign has been established to call for G8 action to tackle road deaths in low and middle income countries. The campaign, supported by an international coalition of organisations, is calling for a 300 million Action Plan for global road safety; a minimum 10% road safety element in all road programmes funded with development money; and a UN summit to address the global road safety crisis. The campaign is coordinated by the FIA Foundation and in the UK by the RAC Foundation. The campaign is running an online petition HERE.
The campaign also aims to raise awareness amongst young people around the world of the global, developmental problems of road safety. This will also help to raise awareness about and acceptance of domestic road safety amongst a key high risk age group in terms of road crashes in industrialized countries: young people in their late teens and early 20s;
Four hundred tickets to the Dirty Pretty Things gig have been won in a competition run by the Make Roads Safe campaign. The concert has now sold out.

The Horse Hospital is proud to present ‘Redefining the Prologue’: an exhibition featuring original cover artwork, and sculptures, as well as a programme of screenings and music from the legendary eighties record label SOME BIZZARE.
The exhibition will include sculptures by Malcolm Poynter and Helen Chadwick, paintings by Philip Diggle, Andy Dog, Val Denham and Graeme Hughes, signed album artwork and limited edition prints, in addition to a rotating programme of music and weekly film screenings of material from artists such as Cabaret Voltaire, Einsturzende Neubauten , Soft Cell, Test Department. And The The,
Founded by Stevo Pearce in 1981 and launched with a compilation featuring Blancmange, , Depeche Mode , Soft Cell and The The, the label quickly became the hub of the 1980s underground music scene, releasing material from bands such as Coil, Psychic TV, Scraping Foetus Of The Wheel, and Swans. Importantly, in addition to supporting cutting-edge music, Some Bizzare also created a unique visual style, its album covers provided mainstream exposure to many underground artists and cutting-edge graphic designers, creating an outsider visual aesthetic unparalleled in eighties pop culture. The relationship between the label and the art world was further reinforced by the launch of the label’s Discretely Bizzare Gallery. A number of artworks featured on this label are included in the exhibition.
As part of the exhibition the label’s 25th anniversary Album.
The album collects together some of the finest moments from the label´s history as well as laying out the blueprint for the label´s future success. "where do i start? i am resigning from the band, i dont have one paticular reason, i have many. some are very personal others are not, my health has not been at its best lately, then to cap it all promoters accuse me of planning my sickness, sometimes i feel im pissing against the wind, i have always done my best and to be perfectly honest im pissed off with the moaners, i have lost the heart to do it. for the shows that have been planned i will have my good friend and comrade chris wright too stand in for me. i will say goodbye to my true fans and friends by doing a couple of local shows, i will do these shows for free or a very minimal amount, i wont take any money personally, just expenses for the rest of the lads, i will make it on a saturday night and i will try to hire a place for the weekend so that anyone who travels any distance can bring a sleeping bag and crash on the floor of the venue, thats if anyone gets any sleep as i want a damn good piss up, as soon as i am fit and well i will start looking for a suitable venue and give everyone as much notice as i can. please give little chrissy wright our support. i want to thank you all for your support i have had 30 good years met some ace people on the way and maybe when the statute of limatations run out il tell the full story, the band was i big part of my life and i loved it its just we maybe tired of each other, anyway enough of this sentimental bollox, yours truly mensi, sunderland till i die and anti fascist till i die."
This is a sad day for Punk Rock. I first got in to the Upstarts around the second single back in the 1970´s. From there on I loved the band and still do to this day.
Mensi as an individual is a top bloke with a good sense of humour. He´s also never forgotten his roots and his politics. The man is a die hard Anti Fascist.
Thanks for all the years of pleasure I´ve got from your band and hopefully catch with you soon for a beer or two.

* I went along to the recent UK Subs gig in Folkestone. A review of this great gig with photo´s can be found HERE. I also had the pleasure of interviewing Charlie Harper. That interview can be found HERE.
* Mensi couldn´t make Wasted due to being ill. No doubt the knockers will be out criticising him but he´ll be back on the road very soon. I expect he´s being pampered so I wont wish him all the best to a speedy recovery. He´ll hate me for it hehe!
* The site has been down the past week due to a technical fault. No thanks to those few that criticised even though your releases were usually reviewed and on line within a hour of recieving them.
